I think I can see a light at the end of the tunnel. For the 1st time in 5 days Noah woke up without a fever today. He is acting more like himself and, let me tell ya, I have MISSED him.
I have been having him sleep with us since I was having to check his temp so often and administer drugs as needed. I was willing to let him return to his own bed last night (remember my selfishness concerning my little slice of our bed) but Chris asked for one more night. He has really loved having Noah to snuggle. I must admit, I've kinda like it also.
And, to add to my euphoria, Eden slept 8 hrs straight last night!!! I was sleeping so hard that I didn't even realize it until I heard her at 6:30 this morning. I shot up out of bed all disoriented. I couldn't believe it. It felt SOOooOOOoOO good. I have had a little extra pep in my step today. Now, that being said, I am trying not to get my hopes up. Trying.

And The Award For Most Pathetic Goes To...
the Hozian Family, specifically Noah. He has been running a pretty high temp for about 3 days now. At one point last night it got up to 103.9. He has just been the saddest thing and it just kills me.

We have talked to several doctors and they all seem to think it is something viral so we are just trying to ride it out. Meanwhile, Eden still isn't sleeping great and I am checking her temp as often as I check Noah's just to be on the safe side. The stress of it all has caused my face to break out like that of a 13 year old boy. Not attractive, let me tell ya. Thank goodness this is all going down over the weekend and Chris is home to lend a hand. And, we couldn't have made it without Misty. She came over last night and stocked us up on much needed supplies like CapriSun (it is the only thing I can get Noah to drink) and popsicles. YOU'RE THE BEST MIMI!
Side note: Don't you just want to smooch this adorable face?!

Desperate Times...
call for desperate measures. Eden and I have had a few really bad nights in a row and last night I was near the breaking point. Finally, in effort to save my sanity, I just put her in the bed with me. I try really hard not to do that because my dear husband already takes up about 3/4 of the bed so I fiercely defend my 1/4. And, I don't want the kid getting any ideas of making this a permanent slumber party arrangement. But, like I said, I was desperate. It was just what we needed. She slept for 5 hrs straight! Oh, it felt so good. And, this is what I woke up to this morning.

SO WORTH IT!
In other news, on Saturday Noah attended his 1st primary program. Since he had been sick most of the week he was still in can't-let-mommy-out-of-my-sight mode. Chris or I had to be with him wherever he went. By the end he had loosened up a bit. His favorite part was the singing time. He would cheer after every song.

For FHE for the next several weeks we are talking about the Armor of God. Last night we discussed the Shield of Faith. More pics to come as we add to our armor.

I always do the dishes in the morning so I set Noah up on the couch with the cartoons going. This morning he had other ideas. This is how I found him after I was done.

One Month Already?!
The 22nd was Eden's one month birthday! Can you believe it? It really is completely insane how fast time can fly.
We had her check up on Monday. She weighed in at 8lbs 14oz. She has gained 2lbs and 1oz since birth. She is in the 50th percentile for weight, height, and head size. Gotta love a completely average girl!
Her personality is starting to show more and more and lets just say, she is definitely Mayfield! She hasn't quite reached "diva" status yet but I fear it isn't far off. She has a mind of her own and doesn't mind sharing it when the need arises, say when she is hungry or if she wants to let me know that she very much does not appreciate a cold wipe being applied to her warm bum.
I have a confession to make. When Noah was a baby I had tons of friends who had kids at around the same time. Noah was the only one that was sleeping through the night at a month and a half. And, before that, I used to have to wake him up to feed him to make sure he was getting what he needed. And, here lies the confession, I was vain about that fact. I was so smug (only to myself) because my kid was so good and I really didn't relate to those poor, insanely sleep deprived mommies. Well, Heavenly Father totally has a sense of humor and knows the very best ways to humble and teach. Eden is a HORRIBLE sleeper...at night. She snoozes away during the day, even sleeping through the madness that is Garden Club on Thursday. But, at night, she feels the need to wake up every 2 hours, eat for 10 minutes if I'm lucky, fall into a coma from which it is impossible to wake her, only to wake up 2 hours later to repeat the whole process. I bow my head in shame for the smugness I felt over my "perfect" child and forthwith acknowledge that I had nothing to do with it, he was just the luck of the draw. Now, don't get me wrong. I absolutely ADORE my little girl, and I chant that to myself in rhythm to the rock of the recliner at 10:00, 12:00, 2:00....
One good thing comes from all the time spent in the recliner with her. I have plenty of "stare" time. You know what I mean. Those moments when you just stare at them in awe, with feelings of utter gratitude washing over you. Those moments when, even though you are so exhausted you can barely think straight, you wouldn't really want to be any where else. Yeah, those are the moments that get me through the night.
Moving on. Eden's hair is usually the 1st thing that people exclaim over. First, because she has a ton of it, and second because she has highlights. Seriously. The roots are a dark brown and the tips are a dark blond. I have tried to capture it on film to share but it doesn't really show up well. Can you see it?

She has the most active tongue I have ever seen. She is like a little lizard or something, testing the air with her tongue. And her tongue is insanely long too. It is very "Kiss"ish.
Lately she and I have been bonding over our hatred for her brother's favorite toy. He got a remote control Tigger for Christmas. It rolls forward and backward and talks and sings. To say he loves the thing would be a serious understatement, thus, I have to listen to it ALL DAY LONG! Poor Eden's little lip will start to quiver and she will let out a pathetic whimper and then shake her head from side to side as if to say, "For the love of all that is holy, NOT THAT THING AGAIN!!" Amen sister!
Aside from hating his beloved Tigger, Eden seems to enjoy her big brother. He obviously adores her. He stands guard over her all the time and is constantly "sharing". I have to be really watchful because I found him introducing her to Cheerios the other day. He is always worried about her being cold and will cover her with any and everything in sight. She patiently endures his affections and rewards his love with a lick to the face if he gets close enough. He is not quite sure what to think of her reciprocation.

Noah has taken to wrapping his Handy Manny in a blanket and carrying him around. I have also spotted him burping Manny. So funny. But, the ultimate in entertainment is when he brings me his toy and informs me that Manny has a "shooshoo" (aka. dirty diaper).

I am sharing the pic below simply because I think he is too handsome!

I seriously don't know how I would have survived the last month without my Mom and sisters. They have met me for doctors appointments countless times, watched the kiddos so I could attempt to catch up on sleep, and offered desperately needed advice when I have called in the midst of complete hysteria. Saying I am thankful for them seems really quite pathetic but that is what I am, completely, totally, and wholeheartedly, THANKFUL!

What Would I Do...
without my AWESOME family? Eden has had several really bad nights and I have, once again, turned into a zombie. So, my parents took pity on Noah and rescued him from his unfairly impatient mother. He is bound for a day of playing and exploring with his ever adoring grandparents. I am bound for a day of catching up on laundry, dishes, and most importantly, SLEEP!
Sometimes I feel guilty that I am not Supermom who can keep all the balls in the air. But, as I slip in between the sheets that I have SO missed lately, all thoughts of my lack of super powers are drowned out by my snore. Snort, wewewe, ahhhhhh!

Don't Make Me Karate-chop You!
Today was Eden's 2 week check up. All checked out well except her jaundice. Urg! She is still a bit yellow, especially the whites of her eyes. So, her doc sent us over to the medical mall to get her bilirubin checked again. This was the 6th time she has had to have her heel stuck. Poor baby.
The nurse who called us back didn't seem all that warm and fuzzy so I was a little worried at first. She asked a few questions but then had a second nurse actually stick Eden. The second nurse joked on the first for being a softy. I could feel the beads of sweat start to dampen my neck. If the 1st nurse was a "softy", that didn't bode well for the second nurse. Sure enough, there wasn't anything soft about her. First off she had my precious baby's foot bent back so far her toes where just like an inch away from her leg. Okay, I know newborns are more flexible than most but come on. Then she had her foot twisted at a weird angle. I actually had to turn Eden's whole body to try to give her some relief. And top it off with the fact that the woman was squeezing Eden's foot so hard that her leg was white almost up to her knee. Needless to say, my baby was screaming her head off. Noah was very concerned. He kept saying, "oh,oh,oh" and coming over to look at her. Finally, I couldn't hold my tongue any longer and I asked the nurse if Eden just wasn't bleeding well or something. She responded that Eden was bleeding great. I said, "Oh, cause it looks like you are being pretty aggressive there so I just wondered." EASE UP LADY!! It was over very shortly after that. I wrapped my babies up as fast as I could and got the heck out of Dodge! When I walked out into the lobby there was an old man by the exit. He looked at me as he opened the door for me and said, "Man, I'm glad that is over." You and me both! And, we may have to go back in on Wednesday if her levels aren't down low enough. I will take that nurse down, mark my words!

My Girl
Eden's cord fell off a few days ago. I am always so anxious for this because I can't wait to get the kiddo into a real bath. I LOVE, LOVE, LOVE a freshly bathed babe to sniff and snuggle.
As you can see, she wasn't a huge fan at first.

But, she warmed up to it by the end.

I have had the hardest time finding clothes to fit her. She is so skinny but she is a decent length. Her whole body will literally fit through the neck of almost all of her clothes. I find her half nakey all the time. Finally Misty found some preemie clothes at Wal-mart that are working well.
How cute is that?!

The first thing I said when I saw Eden for the first time was how much she reminded me of Noah.
Do you see it?

Noah decided he wanted to sport Eden's hospital beanie. It didn't last long though. I don't think he was getting much blood flow.

Man, I have CUTE kids!!!
