Visit With Grandma H

This past weekend we made the trek down to Panama City, Florida to visit Chris's grandmother who is in a nursing home down there. It's been about a year and a half since our last visit so we were overdue. It was really important to Chris that she get to meet Noah.

We left Friday at about 10:00 am. Chris's mom, an aunt and uncle visiting from Spain, and a friend of Chris's mother followed in another car. It took us about 9 hours to make the 6 1/2 hour trip. We stopped often to let Noah out to stretch his little legs. We also got caught in a traffic jam. It was at a complete stand still. Folks were getting out of their cars and just hanging out. During this fun I started to smell a little something. Upon closer inspection I discovered that Noah had a blowout diaper. Of course! So, I had to change him in the front seat. Luckily, Chris's car has leather seats so clean up was a little easier. I had to get a change of clothes out of the suitcase in the trunk. Before we hit the traffic jam I had told Chris that we needed to stop so I could feed Noah. (I decided to wait to wean him until after this trip). So, right there in the middle of a traffic jam, I had to nurse. It was not a fun struggle to keep a blanket over the head of a one year old. Urg!

We got into Panama City at about 7:00 and went straight to the nursing home. I was really curious to see Noah's reaction to Grandma H. She was SOO excited to see Chris and just kept saying over and over again how beautiful Noah is. It was a really cute and tender moment...until we tried to let her hold Noah. He was tired and he didn't know her and he started to wail! I felt so bad. So it was a short visit.

We spent the whole next day, except when Noah was napping, at the nursing home. He warmed up quickly to Grandma and had the entire staff wrapped around his finger in a matter of minutes. He woke up from his morning nap in a really good mood. We went back to see Grandma after lunch and Noah let her hold him. He just hung out with her in her bed for the longest time. You could tell she was so happy. She was incredibly sweet.

Saturday night Chris's aunt and uncle, Tookie and Bill, took us all out to dinner at a local restaurant. I got a Grouper sandwich. It was crazy yummy. Noah had fallen asleep about 5 minutes before we got there. I thought for sure that he would wake up when we got into the restaurant because there was a live band, but, nope. He just kept on snoozing. As a side note, as we were walking into the restaurant, an employee stopped me and asked me if I was over 21. I said yes and he asked to see my ID. I showed him and then he stamped my hand. I thought that was pretty funny because I am going to be turning 30 this year. Kind of makes ya feel good. Anyway, right after we got our food Noah woke up. It was so noisy in the restaurant and it freaked him out. So I took him out onto the beach and we just played until Chris was done eating then he came out so I could go eat. When I got done eating I went to get the boys and what do I find? I find Noah talking and flirting up a storm with a pretty blonde. So typical. I walked up and said, "I should have known I would find you flirting". The chick told me that he was the cutest kid she had ever seen and I promptly agreed with her. Heehee. Chris told me later that Noah just walked right up to her and started showing her stuff in the sand. He said that Noah also tried to give her a kiss. WHAT?! I am going to have to keep a serious eye on this kid.

The trip home on Sunday went well. It was long but Noah was an angel. I have never been so happy to see my own bed. It is so great to be home but I am really glad that Chris's family got to meet Noah. He completely won them over.

Come Again, On My Bertday!

Since Noah's b-day was on a Thursday, the fam got together on Friday to celebrate. We had to have it at my Ma and Pa's house because we still don't have any furniture at our house. Our family is getting out of control big! Add in Chris' side of the family and, let's just say, it was COZY!

The decorations were simple, a few balloons and that was it. I also made a collage of pictures for each month of his life so far. There were some pretty funny moments I had forgotten about.

I decided to be overly ambitious and make a Noah's Ark cake myself. Armed with a few tips and pictures that I got off the internet, I set to work. I must say, though it didn't look NEARLY as good as the cakes I saw online, I don't think I did half bad. And, I really enjoyed doing it.

Noah, again, enjoyed completely destroying his cake, much to the amusement of his uncles. His uncle Nate even encouraged him to dabble in a chocolate mohawk. Thanks Nate!

Noah made out like a bandit in presents. I think he likes the little music player that James and Sarah got him best though. He carries that thing around everywhere.

Thanks to all for coming out and celebrating with us.

I'm In Denial

I am such a loser mom for not posting about this sooner.

On April 3rd at 12:03am my precious baby turned ONE! I couldn't believe it, thus the title of this post. I set my alarm for 12:02am and went in to ring in the day staring at my boy. I reminisced about how amazing the last year has been. I thanked Heavenly Father for the blessing of being his mother. And, yes, I shed a few tears of remorse for how quickly the time has passed.

Here are some photos from a day in the life of a one year old.

Good Morning, Sunshine!

Playing with a present from Mommy and Daddy.

We met up with some of the gals and their kiddos at the mall food court and had a great time playing on the playground they have there. Then we had a lunch together.

Then we visited Daddy at work. Noah loves the crazy images that Chris has as a screen saver.

After dinner we had cake! Noah completely disintegrated it. It was so fun to watch.

After cake, Daddy gave Noah a much needed bath. Then we just hung out together until Noah's bedtime. It was such a bitter sweet day. I was feeling this really crazy combination of joy, gratitude, anticipation, dread, sadness, even lonesomeness. I just love him so much. Sometimes I can't believe he is really mine forever. Somehow forever just doesn't seem long enough. Is that weird?

MOMMY LOVES YOU NOAH BOY!

(Not So) Hot Momma Monday

Okay, so I have been in a serious funk for the last several weeks. My workouts have fizzled to nonexistent and my eating junk is out of control. Chris and I went down to Florida this past weekend to visit his family down there and as I was editing the pics from the trip I had to cringe! I LOOK HORRIBLE!. And, even worse, I FEEL horrible. Urg!

And so, once again, I am starting over on my quest to a better me. All of the same goals apply: drinking more water, working out an hour a day 5 days a week, strength training, making better choices about what I stuff in my gullet, etc.

Sigh.

Just Thinking

Noah is napping and Chris is at the nursing home visiting his grandmother. I am hanging out with my thoughts and was remembering some of the things said in the past conference. I don't have my notes with me so I can't credit this to anyone and I can't even remember the specific quote but I wanted to share the thing that stood out to me the most. The person, I THINK it was Elder Ballard, was talking about a mother who was looking back on her life with her family. She was talking about how busy our day to day can get and she said something to the affect of, "I wish I had enjoyed the doing a little more and the getting it done a little less." I know I have probably slaughtered her words but hopefully you get the jist. It really made me think. How often do we get so caught up in "getting it done", whether it be the gardening, grocery shopping, callings, laundry, whatever, that we don't take the time to really appreciate the time? Does that even make sense? For example, I hate grocery shopping with a passion. I dread it and put it off until all I have to eat is a mustard and cheese sandwich. But, when I finally go, I usually end up loving the time I get with Noah. I always get some sort of treat for us that we snack on while I shop. Noah sits like an angel in the front of the cart and we carry on some of the best "conversations".

Another example. I have been trying to get the weeds in my flower beds under control. When I think about going out to work on the yard I dread it because I think, "How am I going to keep Noah from eating bugs, grass, mulch ( the list goes on and on!) and get done what I need to get done?" But, every time I venture out I end up accomplishing "enough" and I end up rolling around in the grass and having a great time introducing Noah to new sites and sounds.

I need to stop worrying so much about what I did and didn't get done and start appreciating each and every moment Heavenly Father blesses me to have here with the people I love and cherish most.

Repentance

What a LOSER I have been! I can't believe it has been so long since I last posted!

Chris and I have a busy weekend planned but I have vowed that on Monday I will glue my substantial booty to the chair and catch up to date.

Have a great weekend and don't forget to visit me on Monday!
