Hot Momma Monday

I am so excited to report that I lost another 1 and 1/2 lbs this week! So, I am back on track and averaging a pound a week, which was my goal.

My focus this week is going to be on cracking down on my snacking. I tend to rationalize that if it is a "healthy" snack then it is okay to have 3 and 4 snacks a day. Oh, if only it was okay. Sigh.

I also still need to work a little harder on my portion control. I use to divvy up our plates for dinner and immediately put the leftovers away so that it wouldn't be so much of a temptation to go back for seconds but I have gotten out of the habit. I am going to get back to it.

I have said for several weeks now that I need to develop a strength training routine but I have yet to do that with any consistancy. That is goal #3 for this week.

My cardio workouts are going well I think. I do find it a million times easier to work out during Noah's morning nap rather then working out after he goes to bed at night. It is so much easier to make excuses at night.

How was your week?

p.s. I have to brag on my sis, Misty. She lost 3.8 this week! Jealous!
p.s #2: I made 2 other posts today so be sure to scroll on down and check them out too.

Abuela

I love my mother-in-law, Conchi. She is EXACTLY what a grandmother should be. She lives and breathes her 2 grandsons. Whenever she comes over she never comes empty handed. She thinks Noah is a complete genius and that everything he does is hilarious. She is a full blooded Spaniard and has a really thick accent so it is so funny to hear her sing Noah all kinds of songs. She will pick him up and sing and dance around the room. She calls him "Mi Amor", which I love. She is the hardest working, most selfless person I know and I admire her so much.

A few Sundays ago she met us after church and we went to the duck pond. We had a picnic and then just walked around. She insisted on carrying Noah almost the whole time. For those of you that have hefted Noah, you know that that is no small task. We had a good time with Abuela (grandmother in Spanish!).

Whenever I am in South HSV I try to stop by her work so she can spend a few minutes loving on Noah. I stopped by last week and she gave me some money to get Noah a surprise when I stopped by a store. She is always doing stuff like that. After leaving her we went to Wal-mart and I came across this pool. I decided that Noah HAD to have it. So, armed with the money from Grandma, we bought it and brought it home. The weather was yucky the next day so we just blew it up and played inside. Noah loves it. I can't wait til later this week when the weather will be warm enough to take it outside.

Torture

I had to give Noah a hair cut today. This would be hair cut #4 and the kid isn't even a year old yet. I actually prefer his hair a bit long but it was getting a little out of control. Now, in the past I have just put him in the floor and surrounded him with toys to keep him entertained and then I have just cut away. It has worked pretty well but I knew that since he is so mobile now that that would not work anymore. So, I put him in his highchair instead. He did okay at first. He just kept trying to look up and see what I was doing. But, after about 2-3 minutes he was very much over it and let me know it. My sweet, perfect angel became this screaming, kicking, pushing little monster. It was horrible. Consequently, there are 2 places on the side of his head where you can tell I chopped his hair. It is a good thing his hair grows so fast.

I have him scheduled mid-April to get some pics taken for his 1st b-day (I am freaking out!) so hopefully it will have grown out to just the way I like it.

Before and after.

Warm Weather...Almost

I saw on the news that the Botanical Gardens was having a free day on Tuesday. I checked out the weather and it was supposed to be in the lower 60's. So, I hurriedly sent out an email to all the gals in the fam to try to set up a picnic. I also called 2 good friends of mine to see if they wanted to pack up their little ones and come along. I told everyone to invite anyone they could think of so we had 2 more friends come as well.

We all met at the BG at 12:00. None of us had been there in many moons so we had no idea where to go. We went into the Visitor's Center and they hooked us up with a map. I spotted a picnic area on the map so we set out. We found some picnic tables inside of the Children's Garden. Perfect. We set up camp and ate grub. The simplest food taste 10 times better when eaten on a picnic with good friends. Then, we went exploring. The kids had a great time. All of them were under the age of 2 except for E, one of the little girls my sister nannies. And 4 of the 8 kids are just learning how to walk so it was funny watching all of these kids literally toddling.

The only drawback to the day was the crazy cold wind. It was pure heaven when the wind wasn't blowing but when it was it was like 30 below. But, we all still had a blast. Some of the girls said that the BG does a free day every month so we may make this a monthly thing.

p.s The pic of the dinosaur is because M, the oldest of Misty's girls, and her class made this dinosaur for the new dinosaur exhibit that the BG is doing.

Hot Momma Monday

I am relieved to report that I stayed the same in my weight this week. While it might seem weird that I am relieved by this, just let me tell you, I WAS BAD THIS WEEKEND! I didn't make it a PRIORITY to work out on Friday or Saturday and I seriously indulged at Alisha's last night. I would say it is a miracle that I didn't gain!

So, I am going to shake this "weekend of weakness" off and get back on track! There is still much improvement needed in my water drinking. I just forget to drink! How crazy is that? I also want to get more regular in my strength training. I did it kind of sporadically last week. I want to incorporate push ups, squats, leg lifts, and some different ab crunches using the workout ball. My spine has a weird curve that makes crunches on the floor painful for me but I can use the workout ball because it forms to my back and gives me the support I need.

The good news is that I can tell a small difference in the way my jeans fit. They aren't quite as snug in the butt/thigh area. I still have a long way to go but I am seeing results. It is encouraging.

Hopefully you guys had more will power this week than I did. If so, share your wisdom. If not, brush it off and GET MOVING with me!

White Stuff

It is really hard for me to believe that I am going to be turning 30 this year because I am completely immature. I think that is why I get along so great in Young Womens. Anyway, I woke up this morning and the first thing I did, after rescuing Noah from bed, was rush to the window to see if we actually got any snow. I was sooo happy when I saw that we actually got a pretty good dusting. I promptly woke Chris up, whipped up a quick breakfast, and then we all bundled up to go outside to play. I layered Noah in a onesie, thermal pj's, a water resistant wind suit, 2 pairs of socks, a toboggan, and a pair of socks for his hands. He looked like Ralphie's brother (can't remember his name) from A Christmas Story. Heehee! But, alas, Noah wasn't too keen on the freezing cold wind that kept stealing his breath away and he couldn't really move well enough to play in the snow. So, our trip into Winter Wonderland lasted about 5 minutes and then we came back inside. Oh well, heres hoping for more snow next year!

Disgusting!

Noah is on a roll! I saw that he was chewing on something and I thought it was, yet again, a piece of the new carpet that had shed off. Nope! When I fished it out, much to his chagrin, it was a dried up WORM! I yelled, "Gross!", but he just smiled at me and tried to get the disgusting thing out of my hand. This is only the beginning isn't it?
